Bridges at Smile Care Dentists Plymouth
Dental bridges, like implants and partial dentures, are used to replace missing teeth. A dental bridge is a false tooth, known as a pontic, which is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. The two crowns holding it in place are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth. This is known as a fixed bridge. This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of your mouth as you might do with removable partial dentures.
There are several types of fixed dental bridges. The most common ones that we use in Smile Care Dentists Plymouth are conventional fixed all-porcelain bridges that require shaping of the teeth surrounding a missing tooth. All-porcelain crowns (caps) are then placed on the shaped teeth and attached to an artificial tooth.
Bridges can reduce risk of periodontal (gum) disease, help correct occlusion (bite), affect the appearance and functionality of your smile and even improve your speech.
There are many aspects that can affect bridge longevity. Although bridges require proper oral dental hygiene and regular checkups, they should last for ten to twenty years.
We offer a full range of bridge restorations from traditional porcelain bonded to precious metal/gold ones to all-ceramic tooth-like bridges.
All-porcelain bridges are the most natural-looking dental restorations available.
They look and feel much like your own teeth, because the colour of the restoration can be easily matched to your natural tooth colour. They resist stains and retain shading so they will look as good in years to come as they do when you leave our practice.
These bridges are durable. They are much less likely to fracture under pressure or impact. All-porcelain bridges resist plaque for a longer lasting shine and overall healthier look.
The preparation of the teeth required to place all-porcelain bridge does not mean removing healthy tooth structure anymore. The advanced techniques now allow us to retain more of the original tooth.
